At San Roberto International School, we believe in the transformative power of education to shape minds and impact communities. That's why we are proud to be a part of the Social Impact Distinction programme, developed by Nord Anglia Education in collaboration with UNICEF UK. This initiative allows schools like ours to embed children's rights and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into everyday practice, creating an educational environment where social impact is a core value.
The Social Impact Distinction program awards schools at three levels—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—recognizing their commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and belonging (EDIB, children’s rights and the SDGs). The distinction reflects San Roberto’s continuous efforts to include children's rights and global goals in all aspects of the school. It’s not just about understanding these concepts; it’s about living them through actions, projects, and decisions that help shape the world.
What is the Social Impact Distinction (SID)?
The Social Impact Distinction program is a framework designed to enhance schools’ social impact activities and measure their real-world effects. The distinction involves three key strands:
Learning about Children’s Rights and Global Issues: At the core of the Social Impact Distinction is the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Our students learn about their rights and the SDGs, fostering an understanding of their role in global issues like climate action, poverty reduction, and social justice.
Living the Values of Human Rights: Schools must not only teach children about their rights but also practice what they preach. This strand emphasizes equality, dignity, and respect as guiding principles, ensuring that every member of the school community—students, educators, and parents—works together to uphold these values.
Taking Action:Â With a solid foundation in children's rights and global goals, the final strand challenges students to take action. They become advocates for their rights and engage in impactful social projects that drive real change, both within and beyond the school walls.
Our Journey Towards Silver
At San Roberto International School, our journey toward the Social Impact Distinction began with the Bronze award in February 2022. This milestone recognized our commitment to introducing students to the principles of children’s rights and the SDGs. By April 2023, we achieved the Silver award, a testament to how deeply these values have been embedded into our school culture. Our students’ voices are now integral to decision-making processes, and they are actively involved in social impact projects that contribute to achieving the SDGs.
From engaging in local initiatives like working with TECHO, Casa Monarca, Fuerza Memo and La Gloria to raising awareness on key global issues through Model UN simulations and student-led projects, our community has embraced the power of collective action. Our focus on social impact ensures that our students are not only academically prepared but also equipped with the empathy, knowledge, and drive to make a difference.
Looking Ahead
Our next goal is to achieve Gold status, continuing to deepen our commitment to children’s rights, equality, and sustainable development. As we move forward, we will remain dedicated to empowering our students to be active participants in shaping a better world, ensuring that their voices are heard and their impact felt on a global scale.
Through the Social Impact Distinction, San Roberto International School is proud to lead in fostering positive change—both in our local community and the world.
